11 July 2016 State
The two days unabated rain in Warri and its environs has rendered many residents in the area homeless., Quest has learned.
The areas mostly affected include: Ogedegbe street, Ogboru street, Iyara, First Marine Gate street and Airport Road in Effurun among others.
Speaking to Quest FM, residents in these areas lamented that they had not been able to sleep in their homes since the beginning of the rain as their households were flooded.
They explained that there is no proper drainage system to channel the water as most of the houses are built on water channels thereby making the water to compete for spaceman ingredients it difficult for the water to flow through.
They therefore called on the state government to come to their aid by constructing drainage systems which will channel the water to the nearest river.
It could be recalled, according to reports, that the Delta State government under the leadership of Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan embarked on the demolition of houses which were built on water channels to allow for free flow of water in order to avoid floods across the state.
