Fire guts fuel station in Yenagoa

29 December 2016 National

Reports reaching our news desk say a mid-day fire yesterday burnt a section of a petrol filling station at Akenfa, a surburb of Yenagoa in Bayelsa state.

The inferno destroyed properties worth millions of Naira at the petrol station belonging to Millomi and Sons Enterprises Nigeria Limited.

Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, sources say it started from the generator house behind the building as the filling station was not dispensing fuel at the time accident occurred.

Several policemen were drafted to the scene of the accident to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, there was a mild drama at the filling station as some of the fire-service men engaged themselves in fisticuffs over an unexplained disagreement.

One of the policemen drafted to the scene who waded into the fight was said to have however aggravated the situation when he slapped one of the fire-service men involved in the brawl.

Angered by the action of the policeman, the fire fighters threatened to pack up and leave the scene but were prevailed upon by some concerned individuals to forgive and focus on putting out the fire that had just started burning in the power house section of the filling station.
